The stage came alive with traditional folklore dances and powerful drumming that echoed Haiti’s deep cultural roots. Voices soared during a soul-stirring performance by The Haitian Mima, celebrating the strength and beauty of Haiti through song.

The energy reached its peak as Atlanta’s own Bujimix Band rocked the stage with their infectious rhythms, closing out the night in true Haitian style.

A Brief History of the Haitian Flag

The Haitian flag, a bold symbol of resilience and independence, was first created on May 18, 1803, in the town of Arcahaie. Legend tells us that Jean-Jacques Dessalines, one of Haiti’s founding fathers, tore the white section out of the French tricolor, leaving the blue and red to represent the union of Black and mixed-race Haitians in the fight against colonial rule. His goddaughter, Catherine Flon, is credited with sewing the first Haitian flag, a powerful emblem of freedom and unity.

Today, May 18 is more than a date; it is a celebration of identity, legacy, and the enduring spirit of the Haitian people.

Salute to the organizers, performers, and attendees who made this event one to remember! Caribbean Focus TV is proud to highlight the richness of Caribbean culture and celebrate Haiti’s bold legacy.
