Dekalb Children Carnival 2016
On May 21st 2016 the Atlanta Carnival Bandleaders Council (ACBC) launched the children’s carnival parade of bands for 2016. The parade of bands started with the opening remarks from the leaders of ACBC, introductions of the band leaders. The Parade took off with the Caribbean beat followed by the ACBC banners, children in their array of colorful costumes while dancing to the addictive Caribbean music as they showcase their themes for the 2016 carnival.
Each Band got a turn to impress the judges in their outfits, choreography, and jubilee as they bring to life their themes. The judge’s scores each band based on themes, visual impact, creativity, craftsmanship, and costume line ups. The prize distributions were 1-3 place winners and junior king and queen of the band. There were many activities on board to entertain the participants such as continuous music, hula contest, raffles, Sack race, and other relays contacted by the mistress of ceremonies.
The children Carnival is of significance to the Caribbean culture because it continues to teach the children the importance of Caribbean culture, pride, as well as passes on the torch of keeping the customs going so one day to teach their own offspring about their cultures.
Kudos to the Carnival band leaders who continue to work with children! They continue to bring the carnival themes to life, through costumes, dance, and their love of culture
